The Story Behind the Magic
Hi, I’m Kim Powers, the creator and chief alchemist at Client Powers.
This project feels like the destiny of my education and passions finally clicking into place.
My journey began at the University of Northern Colorado, where I dual-majored in the power of story and the beauty of image. My degree in English Education taught me how to unpack complex texts, find their core truths, and communicate them compellingly. My minor in Art trained my eye for visual storytelling, composition, and the emotion that a single image can evoke.
For years, these two skills lived on separate shelves in my mind. Then, I rediscovered the public domain—a treasure trove of powerful ideas that had fallen out of conversation. I saw classic self-help books, filled with transformative wisdom, that felt too dense or dated for a modern audience. The ideas were still powerful, but their packaging was gathering dust.
I asked a simple question: “What if these great ideas didn’t have to be studied, but could be experienced?”
What if the principle of creative thinking from Wallace Wattles could be learned by a young fox in an enchanted wood? What if the lessons of perseverance could be lived by a brave badger on a epic quest?
And so, Client Powers was born. Each fable is a labor of love. I spend months immersed in the original text, respectfully extracting its essence, and then weaving it into an entirely new narrative. I carefully craft each illustration (with the help of AI tools, which I then meticulously edit and refine) to bring the story and its emotion to life.
This isn’t just retelling. It’s translation. It’s translating the language of early 20th-century self-help into the universal language of story and art.
